UAE Legal Services

Local and international documents are authenticated by MOFA. Non-Arabic documents must be translated into Arabic by authorized translators of the UAE Ministry of Justice. Based on their trade license, businesses are required by UAE Customs to obtain an IEC in order to engage in worldwide trade.

Ministry of Finance Attestation (MOFA)

A process known as attestation verifies the authenticity of a document’s seal and signature, whether it was issued in the United Arab Emirates or elsewhere. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) offers this service through its internet platforms as well as its foreign embassies and consulates. Important papers issued outside of the UAE must undergo the attestation process at the UAE Ministry of Finance in order to be used for official purposes within the country. Standardized standards in document authentication are of the utmost importance, given the UAE’s rapid expansion as a global commercial, trade, and tourist hub.

Instructions for MOFA

  • Documents must be original and in either English or Arabic (or an official translation of it)
  • Before submission, the document must have the attestation of the relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Be careful not to laminate the document.

Document Legal Translation

Legal translations are necessary for any non-Arabic documents issued abroad that are to be utilized for official purposes in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE. When an Arabic translator who has been authorized by the UAE Ministry of Justice signs and stamps the translation as lawful, certified, the translation becomes official. Anyone wishing to provide translation services for the UAE government must be registered and hold a license issued by the appropriate authorities, according to Cabinet Resolution 7 of 2014. This resolution governs legal translations in the UAE.

UAE Import-Export Code (IEC)

To apply for a UAE Import-Export Code (IEC), a company needs a valid trade license issued by the UAE licensing body that covers relevant trade activity. Companies doing business in the UAE that import or export goods are each given a unique identifying number called the Customs Code. Businesses engaging in international trade must have this code given by the UAE Customs department in order to pass customs, adhere to rules, and carry out transactions efficiently.

IEC Documents Required

To obtain a customs code via the Dubai Customs department and Dubai Trade Portal, you’ll need to provide the following documents

  • An active trade license.
  • Scanned photocopies of the passports for the company’s shareholders.
  • A Letter of Undertaking, specifically required for businesses operating under a Professional Trade License.

You will require an active trade license, scanned copies of the passports of the shareholders, and a Letter of Undertaking for companies operating under a Professional Trade License.

Businesses in the UAE that import or export goods are required to have an IEC. They must, however, possess a current commercial license from the UAE licensing agency that covers the pertinent economic activity.

Having an IEC makes it easier for companies importing or exporting goods in the UAE to conduct business smoothly, guarantees compliance with trade legislation, and expedites the customs clearing procedure.

Yes, businesses based in UAE free zones can apply for an IEC to facilitate international trade. On the other hand, they must follow the rules established by the appropriate free zone administration in addition to the requirements of UAE Customs.
